Here’s the poem that inspired all of this…

Superman is Clark Kent in disguise
An acorn is an oak tree in a miniature size
Scooby doo villains reveal mask after mask
Until the real person is exposed and called to the task
Layers of costumes, false warmth to protect the cold
Armor, glamor, smoke and mirrors to cover gold
Hiding our quivering brilliance
Gyrating to “the disease to please” dance
Ducking in the shadows
Falling into lock step socially acceptable trance
Afraid to let them see his freakish point of view
Or the hideous splendor of her startling hue
Or his life-altering gift
An unconventional shift that could inspire all of humanity to lift
Obscured beneath layers of:
Please like me
Don’t cast me out
Don’t laugh at me
Don’t hurt me, hate me, or call me out
The first time I heard Elvis sing Jail House Rock I leapt atop my parent’s bed
And began to bounce and nearly hit my head
On the ceiling as my soul tried to make a prison break
In ecstatic jubilation-no one watching I had nothing at stake
Because bouncing was the way my body danced when music played
Leaping was the way I expressed when I was not afraid
My aunt called out, “You call that dancing?
Dancing ain’t dancing unless your arms are up in the air!”
At my first school dance, I didn’t have a care
I heard the music play and put my arms in the air
Until I heard the laughter and the cool kids make fun
As if I was the only one who didn’t get the memo
Arms in the air are for freaks
Social lepers and for geeks
The music stopped, heart froze, cheeks burned like a crimson rose
I longed for a cloak of invisibility to cover my shame
The nearest hole to dive into ‘til I could dance the same
As everyone else—so I could be the Barbie Doll they wanted me to be
So the next dance I had the chance to dazzle them with the new me
My cool new moves to replace my disgrace so they wouldn’t throw me away
Because in the game of people pleasing, if you win, you get to stay
If you don’t you might as well take a dive in to the hole that’s black,
Swallows you up and doesn’t let you back.
Over the years I’ve learned dozens of moves
But recently I’ve become more interested in a different kind of groove
One that involves unlearning, unveiling, unzipping, un-raveling
Un-dancing, un-hiding, and unabashed undulating under undefinable undoing
I figure the more unzipped I can be,
I might give you permission to express the unzipped being you long to be
You might drop your laundry and melt away your mask
And together we might meet in a completely radical dance
One that’s glowing, warm, naked, pure
Where we realize we are stunningly similar and royally sure…
We’re a field of stars in unique constellations
Beaming through ecstatic galaxies, without consolation
Streaking across the universe in a harmonious cacophonous song
With the uni-verse that doesn’t sing off key or ever get it wrong
Let’s bounce on beds
Over our heads
Sing at the top of our lungs
Climb to the highest rung
Make a jail break like there’s nothing at stake
In a leap of faith, we’ll discover how to mate and relate from an unzipped place
That just might unzip the 2.0 dream for the human race.

~Kelly Sullivan Walden

Q&A with 1150 KKNW

• What does being a dream expert mean to you?

I believe that anything we respect and devote our energies to will reveal its secrets to us. I have a beyond normal reverence for dreams, and thus they’ve been whispering in my ear, revealing wisdom and guidance to me since I was old enough to say “I had the strangest dream” (4 years old). I’m like the chef that feasts on her own food. On a daily basis I remember my dreams, work (journal/meditate on them) with them, and don’t dare leave home without them. In addition, I’ve written 5 books on the subject of dreams based on my twenty years of experience working with thousands of dreams and dreamers. What’s great about being labeled a dream expert is that I’m positioned in such a way that people (strangers) feel safe and inspired to entrust their dreams to me. It’s a true blessing that I’m grateful for every day.

• Why should our audience tune into your show?

People will be led to Dreams Unzipped if they are interested in:
– Learning how to remember and interpret their dreams
– Revealing conversations with authors, experts, and trailblazers to inspire them to WAKE UP and live the life of their dreams!
– Becoming a more intuitive, confident, navigator of their life’s divine direction
– Having fun while being educated, inspired, surprised, challenged and celebrated

• What sets you apart from other dream experts?

Most dream experts are scholarly, academic, orthodox, erudite Jungians, feather wafting Shamans, or a tree-hugging-card-carrying members of the land of “woo woo”. I am all of those things and none of them, and on top of it I’ve been touted as the Lovechild of Oprah Winfrey and Lucille Ball. In other words, I intertwine fun, humor, play and laughter into the depth and seriousness of soul/dream work. Oh yes, and my near-death experience from 2008 is a constant reminder that life is but a dream—and if we were wise we’d wake up, take ourselves more lightly, and enjoy every second of this amazing dream we are all co-creating.

• What’s your approach to dream work?

The following are the core tenants/ of my style of dream work:
– Everyone and everything in your dream is you.
– Your dreams are an attempt to manage and grow your power.
– Your dreams reveal where you resist your wholeness, and creatively present clues for reclaiming lost, forgotten, or dismissed aspects of yourself.
– Even your nightmares—no matter how frightening—are an attempt to make your life better.
– You don’t have to immediately know what your dream means to benefit from it.
– Remembered dreams require some form of action in your waking life.

• Besides dream-analysis work, what other ways do you help people improve their lives?

I’ve recently blended my knowledge of dreams/symbolism with my passion and lifetime of field research within the realm of romance to the tune of my latest book, The Love, Sex & Relationship Dream Dictionary that contains over 1,000 dream symbols to help people decode their dreams through the steamy lenses of love.

I’m the founder of Dream-Life Coach Training, a year-long certification program that trains professionals mastery level understanding of nocturnal dreams, as well as the skills to support people in living their dream lives. Click here to watch a video about “vocational arousal” that relates, or click here to receive a free 15-minute inquiry session.

I’m also excited about my new “Certified Dream Practioner” training program to support people in using the Dream Oracle Card Deck to empower people to become fluent in the language of dream symbols to more powerfully hear and heed the wise counsel of dreams and dream symbols.

• What are the most common questions you receive from people about what you do?

• What are the most common questions you receive from people about what you do?

– Why are dreams so strange?
– Why are dreams hard to remember?
– How can I improve my dream recall?
– What does it mean if I am happily coupled yet dream about hooking up with my ex, boss, neighbor, etc.?
– What does it mean when I dream of being back at school and late for a test, if I’m naked, if my teeth fall out, or all of the above?
